Valuable Stakes Success For Das Machen

Das Machen sent her future broodmare value soaring when she led home a trifecta result for Magic Millions graduates in today’s listed Matrice Stakes (1200m) at Morphettville.

A member of the in form Mick Price stable, which had already won two races at Flemington, Das Machen led throughout and held out Time Matters and A Wee Dram to win strongly.

The win was a valuable one for the mare’s connections – her first at black type level.

Das Machen ($2.40 eq fav) cruised home to beat Time Matters ($2.40 eq fav) by two and a quarter lengths, while A Wee Dram ($51) added value to the trifecta when third, another two lengths back.

Das Machen boasts the impressive record of seven wins and five placings from just 17 starts and earnings of over $240,000.

The mare was sold twice by Magic Millions – firstly by Vinery Stud (As Agent) at the 2006 National Weanling Sale for $54,000 and then by Gervase Park Stud for $60,000 at the 2007 Perth Yearling Sale.

In Perth it was Melbourne based syndicator Mark Hoare who took a shine to Das Machen and purchased her under his Pacific Bloodstock banner.

Interestingly the runner-up Time Matters was also purchased from the same Belmont Park sales ring in Perth.

“I thought she was the filly of the sale,” Hoare said of Das Machen. “At that stage Pacific Bloodstock was only buying fillies and she was a lovely athletic style of filly.”

“I knew she’d cost $54,000 as a weanling at the Gold Coast and I was pretty chuffed to get her for $60,000 in Perth – Gervase had done a great job preparing her.”

“It’s a great result – it’s the first stakes win for Pacific Bloodstock and the win has made a lot of people happy and that is what racing is about,” Hoare added.

“A few people said to me after the race that it was another Victorian pinching the South Australian money and taking it back across the border – but I told them I would be back next week for the Adelaide sales.”

Das Machen is one of two winners. from two to race, for the four time winning Kaaptice Edition mare Lili Marlene.

Lili Marlene, who won three races on Sydney tracks, is from a twice Sydney winning Luskin Star half sister to Reserve Pass – the stakes winning dam of Full Pass.
