The early season run of Magic Millions graduates in two-year-old races continued on Saturday when they swept every race they were eligible for.
The scheduled two-year-old contests at Rosehill, Eagle Farm, Ascot, the Gold Coast and Atherton were all won by graduates of Australia’s most winning thoroughbred sales company.
The only juvenile race in Australia for the day not won was one run at Moonee Valley and restricted to graduates of another sales company.
Interestingly the winner of that race was spanked at its previous start in the Gimcrack Stakes by the Magic Millions 2YO Classic bound youngster Defiant Dame.
Karuta Queen, a member of the Neville Layt stable, made it two Sydney wins from as many starts when she was successful at Rosehill.
Layt confirmed plans to target the $2 million Magic Millions 2YO Classic following the win – and said the Magic Millions Wyong Slipper later this year could be her next start.
The Not a Single Doubt filly was purchased by owner Glenn Williams for just $30,000 from the draft of Turangga Farm at January’s Gold Coast Yearling Sale.
She is from the former group winning juvenile Card Queen – a mare who’s now owned by Durham Lodge in Western Australia.
Her yearling half brother by Show a Heart, a flashy individual, will go under the hammer at the Perth Yearling Sale in February.
Further north top young Brisbane horseman Steven O’Dea unleashed his promising youngster Flying Jet at Eagle Farm.
With Larry Cassidy in the saddle, Flying Jet rattled home down the outside of the track to beat fellow Magic Millions graduate Spurtastic in impressive fashion.
The Jet Spur filly was purchased for $60,000 from this year’s Magic Millions QTIS 600 Yearling Sale at the Gold Coast.
“She’s heading to the paddock for a couple of weeks before we come back and look at the McDougall (Stakes) and Tommy Smith Slipper,” O’Dea said.
“She’s eligible for the Magic Millions 2YO Classic and if she comes through those other races we’ll certainly look at it.”
The Gold Coast juvenile event on Saturday was won in impressive fashion by the Falvelon colt Ideal.
A $13,000 Gold Coast April Monthly Sale purchase for Bryan Guy, Ideal gave star Gold Coast based rider Daniel Griffin yet another win at his favourite track.
Showing good speed throughout, Ideal cruised home to beat Miss Leibert by two and a half lengths. Third placegetter Craiglea Mac was another four lengths back.
Ideal is the second winner from two foals to race for the unraced Catbird mare Pitta.
Hers is the family of Selangor Gold Cup winner Sanjuan and Todman Slipper Trial placegetter Jim’s Bet.
Further north at the Cairns meeting at Atherton the Janel Ryan trained Barrier Jet scored an impressive debut win in the $50,000 QTIS 600 event.
A $15,000 purchase from March’s QTIS 600 Yearling Sale, the youngster was one of a four horse package purchased by a group of Cairns Jockey Club committeemen.
A gelding by Jet Spur, Barrier Jet is from the five time winning Bellotto mare Fun for Us – a winner in Sydney prior to being retired to stud.
In the run to the line Barrier Jet held a length and a half margin over the recent winner and race favourite He’s So Tempting. Miss Honahlee, a daughter of Hidden Dragon, was third home, another two lengths back.
Karuta Queen wasn’t the only youngster by Not a Single Doubt to star over the weekend with Single Spice scoring a brilliant two length win at Ascot in Perth on Saturday.
A $20,000 purchase from the draft of Brooklyn Lodge at last year’s Magic Millions National Weanling Sale, Single Spice showed great improvement for her recent first up fourth in the state’s first juvenile race.
“From day one she’s been bombproof,” winning trainer Simon Miller said. “Everything we’ve thrown at her she’s taken to and gone forward.”
“Pete said last start she went to the line with a tank full of petrol but just didn’t know how to go through the gears and that’s what happens when you only have a 400 metre jump out.”
“I knew she was always going to improve off the back of that,” he added.
A full sister to Single Spice is being prepared by Maudsland Thoroughbred Spelling for February’s 2011 Magic Millions Tasmanian Yearling Sale at Launceston.
She is the latest yearling from the two-year-old winning Galileo mare Zaffron Gal and hails from an internationally proven black type family.
Meanwhile, on Sunday in Tasmania, Blue Diamond winner Nadeem was represented by another winner, in the form of Triple Asset.
A filly, Triple Asset is the second winner produced by the Brisbane performed Hennessy mare Caralowe.
She was purchased by connections for $28,000 from this year’s Tasmanian Yearling Sale.
Caralowe is from Biscara, a Flemington winning daughter of Biscalowe – the dam of Golden Slipper winning sire Marauding.
A half sister sister to Triple Asset by Danehill’s group winning sire son Churchill Downs is being prepared by Armidale Stud for February’s 2011 Tasmanian Yearling Sale.
