Karuta Queen will be freshened with the $2 million Magic Millions 2YO Classic in mind after she extended her unbeaten run at Rosehill today.
The Not a Single Doubt filly is trained by Neville Layt and cost just $30,000 from January’s Magic Millions Gold Coast Yearling Sale.
“She did it a little bit harder today because she jumped out on the wrong leg but she still won and he (Tommy Berry) didn’t have to flog her to win,” Layt told AAP.
“And she gave them weight too. She’ll have a break now and then head up to the Wyong Magic Millions on December 5.”
Provided she comes through that well she would almost certainly take her place in the field in Queensland’s riches tace in January.
Purchased by owner Glenn Williams from the draft of Turangga Farm, Karuta Queen is a son of former outstanding Magic Millions graduate Not a Single Doubt.
“We didn’t think she would be this good when he bought her, we bought her on speck,” Williams told AAP.
“We sent her down to Neville to train and she’s done nothing but bloom since,” he added.
Karuta Queen is the second winner, from two to race, for the former group winning juvenile Card Queen.
A half brother to Karuta Queen, by Toorak Toff’s sire Show a Heart, is being prepared by Durham Lodge for February’s 2011 Magic Millions Perth Yearling Sale.
Card Queen is now in Western Australia after being purchased by the Smith family’s Durham Lodge for $55,000 at the 2009 Magic Millions National Broodmare Sale.
The colt by Show a Heart heading to next year’s sale is a quality individual according to Magic Millions Perth Manager Murray Tillett.
“He’s a lovely, lovely colt,” Tillett said. “He’s a real flashy individual and he’ll certainly take the eyes of buyers.”
