Flying Pegasus and Chateau Istana have made the early running for Australia’s freshman sires this season with winners on Saturday.
Absolute Cracker did the job for Flying Pegasus at Belmont in Perth while Daydreamer was an impressive first winner for Chateau Istana at Toowoomba.
Trevor Andrews predicted better things from Absolute Cracker – the first winner for exciting Western Australian stallion Flying Pegasus.
“She’s a very nice filly,” Andrews said.
“When I spotted her at Heytesbury (Stud) I rang the guys from Touchstone (Farm) and told her I’d seen an absolute cracker – hence the name.”
“She’s a very good, natural filly. She’s got a good nature. It’s typical of the progeny.”
“They’re really good doing horses and very sound and they are naturally athletic.”
“It’s nice to get a Flying Pegasus filly to the track for her first start and win because I think he’s going to have a big future this stallion.”
“I’ve got four or five and I’ve got some flash ones. The others will probably need a bit more time than this one but I think they’ve got a good future.”
Andrews purchased Absolute Cracker for $50,000 from the draft of Heytesbury Thoroughbreds at this year’s Magic Millions Perth Yearling Sale.
Meanwhile, Chateau Istana youngster Daydreamer made up for an unlucky run in the recent $75,000 Hopeful Plate with a solid on speed win at Toowoomba.
Bred and sold by Sleepy Hollow Farm, Daydreamer carries the colours of Oaklands Stud – the farm that stands her freshman sire, Chateau Istana.
“We bought her for $9,500 at the Gold Coast and we couldn’t be happier,” Oaklands Stud’s Neville Stewart said.
“We’ve been getting some great feedback from buyers and trainers and I know Mark (Webb) has a good opinion of Daydreamer and more he has as well.”
Chateau Istana was a quality European galloper who scored his biggest win in the Group Two Flying Childer Stakes at Doncaster.
It was a great day for Oaklands Stud with a quinella result in a Brisbane juvenile race for Ferocity – the former Magic Millions Adelaide 2YO Classic winner.
“And All Bar One, one of our other first season sires, had a placegetter in Brisbane today and has had trial winners in Sydney and Brisbane.”
“So it’s been a great day all round,” Stewart summed up.
