Buffering’s march toward the Group One Coolmore Stud Stakes received a boost when he cruised to victory in today’s Group Two $175,000 Roman Consul Stakes (1200m) at Randwick.

The classy Queenslander is likely to have another run in Sydney before he heads to the feature three-year-old sprint at Flemington according to trainer Robert Heathcote.

“Finally,” Heathcote beamed. “We’ve run a lot of placings in these interstate ventures.”

“He did that in style and gee what a ride from Nash – he rated him a treat.”

“I thought the Darley team were going to do it to me for the third straight race – but we fought them off today and I’m very happy.”

“On top of that win we might stay in Sydney and give him another run in a couple of weeks and then go down (to Melbourne) and have a crack at that Coolmore (Stud Stakes),” he added.

In the run to the line Buffering was able to pull clear of Obsequious to win by a length and three quarters.

Another two lengths back in third place was Parriwi.

Winning rider Nash Rawiller couldn’t help but be impressed with the speed Buffering showed at both the start and end of the race.

“He’s still learning what the job is all about,” Rawiller said. “He was a bit green again today but he’s a horse who’s going forward.”

“He makes his own luck and he’s got a high cruising speed.”

“It was a good, tough effort and he’s a very nice horse,” Rawiller summed up.

Part owned by former Socceroos Zjelko Kalac, Craig Moore and Scott Chipperfield, Buffering is turning out an incredible money spinner for connections.

He was purchased by leading New Zealand based bloodstock agent Paul Willetts for just $22,000 at last year’s Magic Millions QTIS 600 Yearling Sale at the Gold Coast. He was bred and sold by renowned Queensland thoroughbred nursery, Racetree.

From just nine starts, of which six have resulted in wins, Buffering has earned an ever increasing $564,500.

By Vinery Stud’s leading Success Express sire Mossman, Buffering is one of three winners for the 100% winner producer Action Annie.

A city winning daughter of Anabaa, Action Annie is a half sister to the international stakes performers Instant Strike and Don’t Go Crazy.

Further back the family includes the outstanding international gallopers Relaxed Gesture, Evolving Tactics, Wait Till Monday, Token Gesture and the mighty Martha Stevens.
