Defiant Dame will be set for the $2 million Magic Millions 2YO Classic in January after she demoralised her rivals in today’s listed Gimcrack Stakes (1000m) at Randwick.

The More Than Ready youngster did all the work, from start to finish, pouncing from the barriers and racing clear in record time.

At the line she held a widening three and a half length margin over her rivals

The David Payne trained youngster stopped the clock in a blistering 57.41 seconds – a race record – and almost a second quicker than Smart Missile ran in the following race, the breeders Plate.

The filly, bred by well known bloodstock agent Anton Koolman, was purchased by senior part owner Les Samba for $270,000 at last year’s Magic Millions Gold Coast Yearling Sale. The well bred youngster was sold through the draft of Lyndhurst Stud Farm.

“She’s a lovely filly,” a delighted Les Samba said. “She’s very quick.”

“She had a bit of quality about her (at the sale). She had a lot of presence – just a nice filly.”

“She is smart and she’ll go to the Magic Millions (2YO Classic) now.”

Winning rider Corey Brown knew his mount was the horse to beat after a pair of impressive trial wins leading into the race.

“She’s the perfect little two-year-old,” Brown beamed from the winner’s stall.

“She’d shown that in the trials – she’d jumped to the front and controlled.”

“She accelerated much better today than what she had done in her previous two trials.”

“They were never going to lead her. Even drawn out wide – people were a little concerned with the barrier draw, but she’s got gate speed.”

“She nearly pulls you off the back because she leaves so quick from the gates – within two or three strides I was well out in front and the race was pretty much over.”

Brown, like Samba, said the Magic Millions 2YO Classic in January would be an ideal target for the precocious youngster.

“I said to David (Payne) to put her away in the paddock now and leave her alone for a little while and bring her back for the Magic Millions.”

Defiant Dame, by champion juvenile sire More Than Ready, is one of two winners produced by the Sydney winning juvenile Marcovette.

A daughter of St Covet, Marcovette showed great ability and was fourth in a Group Three Kindergarten Stakes.

As well as Defiant Dame she has produced the Sydney winner and stakes placed Flying Spur galloper Sea Spur.

Marcovette is a half sister to Kirkberg – a winner of the listed Maribyrnong Trial Stakes at her first start.

A half sister to Defiant Dame, by boom Queensland sire Hidden Dragon, is being prepared by the Lyndhurst Stud Farm team for January’s 2011 Magic Millions Gold Coast Yearling Sale.

“She is a lovely filly,” Magic Millions Bloodstock Consultant Barry Bowditch said. “She’s typical of the nice Hidden Dragons.”

“She’s sure to impress prospective buyers,” Bowditch added.
